Odessa Festival

A Flashmob of Floating Balloons in Odessa

What happens when you gather together 60 fabulous balloon artists, from all over Ukraine?

You get the amazing Odessa Balloon Fest, organised by our Gemar Ambassador Veronika Golubeva.

The participants were supervised by 13 wonderful mentors, and special guest Irina Lobanova, as they spent 2.5 days creating a range of stunning sculptures. It took one hundred thousand balloons to complete everything, and the results are truly breathtaking.

Such beautiful artwork deserves to be shared with the world, and that is exactly what happened. Odessa city was holding a festival entitled “I want to go to Odessa”, which the balloon artists were more than happy to join. If beautiful balloon-covered floats don’t make people want to visit the coastal city, then we don’t know what will!

From Poseidon on a majestic throne, surrounded by sea creatures, to floating jellyfish and even a yellow submarine, the sculptures joined a parade through the city and were admired by all. Balloons cannot fail to bring a smile to anyone’s face and these had us happily dreaming of days spent by the sea.

That’s not all though, there was also an eco flashmob entitled “Hold the balloons”. Swimmers took to the ocean accompanied by beautiful balloons and had a wonderful time bobbing among the waves! The event was intended to spread awareness of balloons as an environmentally responsible and sustainable option.

Balloons are not made of plastic, in fact Gemar balloons are made from 100% natural materials and are fully biodegradable. Of course litter of any kind should be avoided but with every balloon safely popped and disposed of this event showed that they can be environmentally friendly.
