On June 9th, a sea of enthusiasts flooded Rome, following in the footsteps of champions, shortly after the start of the European Half Marathon. The Rome 10K race took place in the historic center of the Capital on a unique course immersed in history. The race kicked off from Via dei Fori Imperiali at 10:15 AM and covered a 10-kilometer route that partially mirrored the half marathon included in the official program of the European Championships in Rome. The course passed through some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, such as the Altar of the Fatherland at Piazza Venezia, Castel Sant’Angelo, Piazza del Popolo, Piazza di Spagna, and Piazza Navona, before heading back towards the Fori Imperiali.

Over 4,000 participants registered for the Rome 10K, both competitive and non-competitive, on June 9th. Among them were 2,500 Italians and about 1,500 foreigners who came to the Capital to follow the European Championships. The event created a colorful wave through the City of Rome.

The Rome 10K also featured the official pacers of Run Rome The Marathon 2024, who accompanied participants across various paces, from the fastest (3’48 per km with a final time of 38 minutes) to the slower times (1 hour and 30 minutes), including the fitwalking pacers who enabled many enthusiasts to complete the race at a brisk walking pace. For the occasion, the pacers wore tricolor balloons – kindly provided by Gemar – already a partner of the Rome Marathon – to honor the Italian flag and the splendid national athletics team, which set a record of medals (24 total medals, including 11 gold, 9 silver, and 4 bronze) during these European Athletics Championships.

Representing Gemar at the event were Claudio Casagrande and Vincenzo Musto, who, at dawn in a deserted Rome, ensured that the balloons were inflated and ready for the pacers. An iconic photo that will remain memorable is of the pacers holding balloons forming the tricolor at the Fori Imperiali.
