Gemar doesn’t just produce and sell balloons, it actively strives to build a community of professionals passionate about balloon art. The goal is to ensure that these professionals can fully embrace the art of balloons, staying updated on the latest trends and learning new techniques to create increasingly complex designs.

These activities are promoted during GemarDay, special events organized by Gemar in collaboration with local partners in various countries around the world. During these events, anyone interested in staying up-to-date and improving their skills in balloon art gathers together.

To better understand what GemarDay is and how it is organized, we interviewed Chiara Pagliaroli, who is responsible for organizing these events.

The wssence of GemarDay

The first question we asked Chiara was simple: What are GemarDay events? Her response perfectly summed up the philosophy that guides these events: “A GemarDay® is a celebration that reignites that childhood excitement for balloons by sharing best practices through innovative, on-trend balloon art.

This concept captures the essence of GemarDay: a celebration of the magic of balloons and a unique learning opportunity. During these days, participants not only watch professionals at work but also learn innovative techniques and take home valuable inspiration. In addition to being a moment for professional development, GemarDay is also an opportunity to share experiences, grow together, and create connections with other enthusiasts.

The complexity of organization

To ensure the success of GemarDay, organization is a crucial element. However, as Chiara explained to us, “time is always the biggest challenge.” An event of this magnitude requires the coordination of many different figures, from those working on the projects, to those managing logistics, to the actual production of the balloons.

The organization of a GemarDay is a team effort, and every part must work in perfect sync. However, it’s not always easy to align the schedules and needs of all parties involved, especially when dealing with those hosting the event. “Sometimes communication feels like a tug of war” Chiara explains, highlighting the difficulties that arise when chasing after different pieces of information to complete the preparations.

High standards of quality

Beyond coordination, one of the key aspects for Gemar is quality. “What matters to us is that participants are happy and satisfied with the day” Chiara emphasizes. The success of a GemarDay is not only measured by the positive experience of the participants but also by the ability to transfer concrete knowledge that can be applied in their daily work. This goal is achieved through the careful selection of internationally renowned artists and constant attention to market trends and emerging techniques.

The relationship with local partners

The organization of an event like GemarDay cannot succeed without collaboration with local partners. Communication with these partners is not always straightforward, but it remains a fundamental pillar of the organizational process. Gemar doesn’t limit itself to using formal tools like email or digital platforms: “We exchange SMS, and if necessary, we even use carrier pigeons” jokes Chiara. This joke underscores the importance of flexibility and constant availability, which are essential elements for ensuring the success of every GemarDay.

An experience combining learning and fun

Attending a GemarDay doesn’t just mean learning new techniques; it also means having fun and sharing your passion with other professionals. “You learn while having fun” says Chiara. Each event is designed to help participants grow through the presence of expert instructors, but also by engaging with colleagues who share the same love for the art of balloons. The fun and happiness of the participants is evident in the feedback they provide. “What always stands out to us is the warm welcome and kindness we receive” Chiara shares. Every GemarDay leaves an indelible mark, not only for the beauty of the creations made but especially for the positive energy felt throughout the day.

The future of GemarDay

Looking ahead, Gemar has one main goal: to continue spreading the magic of balloons and the art of their creation. “We want to give everyone the chance to learn from the best and explore the infinite possibilities that a balloon can offer” concludes Chiara. GemarDay will continue to represent an unmissable opportunity for anyone looking to grow professionally and be inspired by the beauty of balloon art.

On 18 September 2023, a new and highly anticipated Gemar Day was held in Warsaw. The event, which saw the participation of over 90 people and the use of more than 20,000 balloons, was a moment of sharing, education and creativity, involving both professionals and balloon art enthusiasts.

Making the event even more special was the participation of Angelo Rocca, President and Founder of Gemar, who returned to a Gemar Day after six years, and Gloria Veta, Global Brand and Sales Director of Gemar. Their presence underlined the importance of this day, which represents a unique opportunity to share the passion for the art of ballooning and to look to the future with innovation and creativity.

Training and innovation at the heart of the day

Guiding participants through new techniques and creative approaches were three expert trainers: Roberta Pinto, Vincenzo Musto and Gergo Csatai.

Roberta Pinto and Vincenzo Musto offered workshops focusing on decoration techniques and the creation of spectacular walls with balloons. Their experience enabled participants to acquire advanced skills in the creation of scenographic installations, demonstrating how the art of balloons can turn any event into a unique experience.

Gergo Csatai, on the other hand, brought a breath of innovation with the Gemar Creator, a tool that allows new forms of balloon art to be created in a simple and intuitive way. Thanks to him, participants were able to explore the potential of this software, which is redefining the way balloon decorations are conceived and designed.

Presentation of new products

The new Gemar products were also previewed during the event: the D2, D4, G30 and G40 in the colours Burro Shiny Kiwi, Emerald Green, Navy and Vino. These new balloons, available in sophisticated and modern shades, met with great interest among participants, offering new creative and scenic possibilities for future balloon art creations.

Special thanks to partners

Special thanks go to GoDan, Gemar’s official distributors in Poland, who contributed greatly to the success of the day. Their cooperation and commitment made it possible to realise a memorable Gemar Day.

An experience that combines learning and fun

During the event, participants had the opportunity to have fun, discover new techniques and strengthen relationships within the community. The enthusiasm and passion in the room once again demonstrated the strength of this event, which combines training and creativity in a relaxed and stimulating atmosphere.

Upcoming events

We are thrilled to announce that next month will see us involved in three new Gemar Days around Europe: Athens, Porto and Seville. We look forward to meeting other professionals and enthusiasts who are ready to discover the art of ballooning with us.

Until the next Gemar Day!

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Winx, Gemar had the privilege of being a partner in the party that celebrated this milestone. With our motto, “Lifting the Moment”, we took up the call to create moments that not only celebrate, but also remain etched in memory.

Our efforts resulted in a series of displays that transformed Malatesta Square in Rimini into a corner of Alfea, the magical school of the Winx. Our Master Balloon Artists worked tirelessly to design and create breathtaking installations: from the beautifully decorated stage, to the giant balloons that floated in the square’s fountain, to the towering dragon that captured the imagination of all present.

For us at Gemar, every event is an opportunity to elevate the experience and make it unique. This anniversary was not only a celebration of two decades of magic and adventure, but also a demonstration of the ability of balloons to transform every moment into something extraordinary.

Gemar wanted to make this event memorable, proving that every celebration deserves to be experienced in a special way just as our motto mentions.

We are proud to have contributed to such a meaningful moment and happy to have had the opportunity to lift the Winx 20th anniversary celebration, making it an experience that will remain in everyone’s heart.

This year, we celebrate an extraordinary anniversary: 200 years since the creation of the balloon. Since 1824, the balloon has captured the imagination of millions of people worldwide. Over time, it has undergone an incredible transformation, evolving from an experiment into a universal symbol of celebration and joy. Gemar has played a fundamental role in this journey, carrying forward a centuries-old tradition and helping to turn the balloon into an art form.

The birth of the balloon: an invention that changed the world

The balloon was born in 1824, when English chemist Michael Faraday created the first version. His experiment with rubber was an event no one could have predicted would have such a lasting impact. Faraday joined two sheets of rubber and inflated them, observing the object’s expansion into what we now recognize as a balloon. This small scientific discovery marked the beginning of a new chapter in the history of entertainment and decoration.

From experiment to celebration: the evolution of the balloon

Over time, the balloon became an accessible product for everyone. The balloon industry began to develop, especially in Europe and the United States, with manufacturers experimenting with different materials to improve the product’s quality and durability. It was during this period of innovation that balloons started to be used in parties and celebrations, becoming an essential element for special events and occasions of joy and fun.

The birth of Gemar: a story of tradition and innovation

In this context of growing balloon popularity, more than 100 years ago, Gemar was founded in Italy. Gemar started as a small artisanal business dedicated to producing high-quality balloons. The company quickly stood out for its attention to detail and commitment to innovation, successfully balancing tradition with modernity. Gemar’s passion for balloons has led it to become a global leader in the industry, firmly rooted in Italian soil but always looking towards the future and sustainability.

September: a month of celebrations

The 200th anniversary of the balloon coincides with another special event: International Balloon Month, celebrated every year in September. This occasion is a unique opportunity to celebrate the positive impact that balloons have had on our lives, bringing joy, color, and creativity to every corner of the world. For Gemar, International Balloon Month represents an opportunity to continue inspiring, innovating, and celebrating this extraordinary invention that made the company’s birth possible.

A journey of 200 years

The 200th anniversary of the balloon is a special occasion to reflect on how far we’ve come. From that initial experiment, today, Gemar is proud to be part of this extraordinary story, continuing the tradition and looking to the future with enthusiasm.

As we celebrate the past, we look forward to the future with optimism, ready to see what the next 200 years will bring for the balloon and for Gemar. And what better time to do so than during International Balloon Month?

At Gemar, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. To better understand how the company aims to make a greater impact in the balloon market with an innovative and environmentally friendly approach, we turned to Dominique Palladini, our Global Business Development and Compliance Manager.

100% Biobased Balloons

For Dominique, the real secret ingredient of our balloons is one and only one: “natural rubber latex.” “It’s incredible to think that such a fun product can be completely organic and quickly renewable,” she says enthusiastically. Our balloons are made from latex extracted from rubber trees, and to achieve the vibrant colors that distinguish them, we use organic-based pigments, thus certifying our balloons as 100% bio-based. This not only reduces the environmental impact but also ensures they are safe for everyone.

Rubber Means Environmental Sustainability

For our Global Business Development and Compliance Manager, the environmental benefits of rubber compared to synthetic materials are evident: “Rubber is a natural, quickly renewable, forest-based material” she explained. Moreover, rubber trees are fantastic for absorbing carbon, actively contributing to the fight against climate change. Using rubber means reducing our ecological footprint and supporting sustainable practices.

Quality and Safety First

Product safety is the most important thing. “We leave nothing to chance” Dominique stated. Gemar ballons are tested and certified by accredited laboratories such as TUV Saarland. We have a rigorous internal protocol that includes verifying each batch, following toy safety standards, and our internal quality standards. This means everyone can have fun without worries, knowing that each balloon is safe and of high quality.

Sustainable Production

One of the most fascinating aspects Dominique shared is our production process, which combines tradition and innovation: “From latex mixed with pigments to ceramic molds created by a local craftsman, every step is designed to be sustainable.” After vulcanization, which gives the latex its elastic properties, the balloons are ready for distribution. This method allows us to maintain a strong connection to our artisanal roots while adopting modern and environmentally friendly techniques.

Sustainability for Light-hearted Fun

Looking to the future, Dominique sees sustainability as a key element in the party products sector: “Sustainability is a crucial theme even in the party market” she said. With growing environmental awareness, Gemar is ready to lead the change: “Our commitment to sustainable practices not only improves our image but also contributes to a greener future for all.”

A Varied and Innovative Catalog

In Gemar catalog, you will find balloons for every imaginable occasion. From giant balloons to twistable ones, from clear fillable balloons to punch balls, every product is designed to offer maximum quality and sustainability. We offer a wide range of colors and sizes, perfect for birthdays, weddings, baby showers, Halloween, and much more. For those who want to learn the art of balloon decoration, we also offer dedicated courses.

Conclusion

This discussion with Dominique Palladini has shown how dedicated Gemar is to combining tradition, innovation, and sustainability. Every balloon we produce is a small contribution to a greener world, without compromising fun. Choosing Gemar balloons means choosing quality, safety, and a commitment to the environment. The next time you see a Gemar balloon brightening up a party, you’ll know there’s much more behind that smile.

We had the pleasure of hosting our Polish partners Godan. The visit not only further strengthened our partnership but also provided an opportunity to showcase the entire production process of our balloon company to our Polish visitors.

The representatives of Godan were welcomed by Genesio Rocca and Gloria Veta, who accompanied the visitors on a detailed tour of our production facility.

During the visit, our partners had the opportunity to see and understand all the stages of our balloon production. This allowed them to appreciate the attention and care we put into every phase of our work, always ensuring the highest quality.

A particularly amusing moment during the visit was when the Polish group recognized the balloon shipment destined for them. Amidst the fun and astonishment, the Godan representatives didn’t miss the chance to have their picture taken in front of the stack of outgoing packages.

The visit to Italy was also a moment for direct discussions with the Gemar ownership. This direct interaction further strengthened the ties between the two companies, discussing future opportunities and strategies for an increasingly fruitful collaboration.

The visit was a valuable opportunity to strengthen our relationships with our partners and to showcase the beating heart of Gemar. We are proud to collaborate with companies like Godan, who share our passion for excellence and innovation. Together, we look to the future with optimism, ready to face new challenges and seize every opportunity to grow and improve.

Recently, we hosted our partners from Gemar USA at our headquarters in Casalvieri.

Piero Bove, CEO of Gemar USA, and Maria Rivera, Sales Director of Gemar USA, along with Genesio Rocca and Gloria Veta, had the opportunity to plan upcoming joint activities and review the results achieved so far.

During the afternoon, the leaders of the two companies, discussed future strategies and the results achieved, laying new foundations for further growth opportunities.

At the end of the meeting, we took our American guests on a tour of our production area, where Piero and Maria had the chance to learn more about the processes that make our products unique.

A particularly fun moment was when little Fabrizio, the American couple’s son, enjoyed playing with the balloons, making the visit even more friendly. With plans in place and clear ideas for the future, the next activities in the United States and Latin America are scheduled to begin in the coming days.

The visit was the perfect opportunity to align our projects and continue on the path we have set, aimed at achieving new great goals.

We had the honor of hosting Liz Jaramillo, a passionate and talented balloon artist, at our Gemar factory. Liz, known for her creativity and balloon decoration classes, visited our company and was amazed by what she saw. For her, it was a dream come true.

Liz’s Journey in the Balloon World

Liz began her career in the balloon world after attending a workshop with City Balloons and Balloon Boutique. Since then, she hasn’t stopped. In 2022, Liz started teaching numerous students balloon decoration and carpentry techniques, offering a comprehensive course once a month.

“Our courses are limited to 15 students at a time,” Liz explains, “because we want to ensure personal attention and quality training.” In addition to Spanish classes, Liz recently introduced English classes to reach a wider audience.

Collaboration with Gemar and City Balloons

Last year, Liz had the opportunity to collaborate with Gemar and City Balloons on a special project, working alongside Maria and Wally to create a balloon castle. “It was a great success,” Liz recalls, “and I am extremely happy with Gemar products.

A Love for Gemar Products

Liz expressed her enthusiasm for Gemar products with emphasis, stating: “I don’t like Gemar products, I love them!” This sentiment of love and appreciation stems from the quality and durability of the balloons, especially in challenging weather conditions. “I tested them in the sun,” she shares, “and they are the best product for both indoor and outdoor use.”

A Lifeline During the Pandemic

During the interview, Liz shared a deeply personal story about her experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. When the pandemic hit, Liz, like many others, found herself in a difficult situation. She had a degree and a stable job in hotel sales, but the sudden turn of events left her without work. It was during this challenging time that Liz discovered Gemar.

Gemar has meant so much to me” Liz confides, “especially during the pandemic when everything seemed lost. I had no money and no clients. I paid for my first class with money borrowed from my sister. The ability to buy small quantities of high-quality balloons allowed me to start my business from scratch. If it wasn’t for Gemar, I wouldn’t be here today.”

This relationship was pivotal in Liz’s journey. The flexibility and quality of Gemar products provided her the tools she needed to not only survive but thrive in her new career. Liz’s story is a powerful testament to the impact that Gemar had during a critical time.

A Special Thanks to Gemar

During her visit, Liz expressed her gratitude not only for the high-quality products but also for the support received from the Gemar community. “Working with a brand that understands the needs of artists is rare and precious” she said.

The Factory Tour

Despite the rain, Liz toured our factory and saw firsthand the production process of the balloons. “It was incredible to see where the balloons I use every day come from” she said enthusiastically.

Conclusion

Liz’s visit was a moment of great inspiration for all of us at Gemar. Her story of resilience and success is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. We are grateful to Liz Jaramillo for sharing her time and passion with us and wish her and her students continued success.
