The BAPIA Fun Day was held at Grand Station, Wolverhampton, in the West Midlands, UK, on 7th June. It’s a local venue to Greetings House and situated in the centre of the UK. The event attracted around 80 BAPIA members, balloon artists and designers most relatively new to the industry. Many had travelled long distances, some as far as Scotland, London & Portsmouth.

BAPIA is the leading trade organisation for the UK’s Balloon and Party Industry, having more than 1,700 members. BAPIA work with leading balloon training providers, to ensure that their members are aware of all latest balloon products, skills, techniques & design trends.

The format of the day was based around Networking & Education. Delegates were treated to several presentations and classes, which included learning new balloon skills, basic dried flower arranging skills and tips on running a balloon business. There was also a very good presentation on how they could improve their marketing and promotion techniques, through all of relevant social media and direct marketing channels.

Greetings House was represented by Mark Drury, John-Paul Banbury, Richard Turnbull, Scott Hansell & Hayley Kean. The team presented Gemar balloons and also provided hands-on experience during the day, encouraging delegates to complete a part-prepared hoop based on Irina Gvozdenko’s design, which Vincenzo Musto delivered during the Gemar Roadshow UK event, at Greetings House, earlier this year.

On the day we engaged the services of two professional and well-respected balloon artists, Helen Clayton of Cheeky Gorgeous Events and Kez Wheatley of Kez’s Balloons. Both were brilliant and can be seen interacting with delegates on the pictures taken during the day. Both Helen & Kez had attended the Gemar Roadshow event at Greetings House, so they were well placed to discuss, answer questions and instruct delegates on many of the skills required to build the piece.

The display was completed beautifully under the girls’ guidance.

On the weekend of 1 & 2 June, Fiona Eagle, from NABAS association, was at Epsom Racecourse for the lighting of the Beacons for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations and Ladies Day at the Cazoo Derby at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey UK.

This crown is based on the St Edward’s Crown which was placed on the Queen’s head at her coronation in 1953. It was made in 1661 and is kept at the Tower of London.

During Fiona’s research, one of her favourite large crowns was a giant topiary one. She was inspired to make this balloon crown. The installation consisted of about 900 balloons and was about 2 metres high.

In the creation process, Fiona was interviewed by the event presenter, so the construction could be seen on all the big screens of the place. And it was great to see in the papers that people were having fun taking photos with the balloon throughout Ladies Day.

We are very pleased that Gemar balloons were part of such an amazing event!

At Gemar we have a tradition of honoring the UN World Environment Day. And this year is no different.

Gemar is situated in a beautiful natural area, in the heart of gorgeous mountains. Therefore, environmental concerns have become our highest priority. Balloons give people happiness and we firmly believe that we can spread that joy in an environmentally friendly, sustainable and ethical way.

In our production process we focus our environmental efforts in next main areas:

natural products. All our balloons are made from “caoutchouc”, a natural and renewable material. That’s why they are 100% bio-based.

reducing carbon footprint. Fighting global warming is one of our goals. Luckily, balloon production has a low influence on climate change, as growing rubber trees absorb CO2. The analysis showed that the annual CO2 sequestration of a rubber plantation is averaging at 36.7 tonnes CO2 ha-1 yr-1. Our whole manufacturing process actually saves 29.09 tons of carbon for each ton of Gemar balloons.

recyclable and reusable bags. All of our packaging is either reusable, recyclable and/or FSC®-certified . Our zip bags can be reused again and again and refilled.

We are making peace with nature every day, not just on June 5. That’s why we prepared a new section on our web-site where we will share all our knowledge and achievements in this important area.

In addition to our activities for planet’s protections we also support different organisations, such as World Ocean Day, by donating $2000 for protecting and restoring our ocean. We care about the future of our planet that’s why we are supporting the 30×30 goal and signed the petition to protect at least 30% of the ocean by 2030.
